Ex-Girlfriend Took Porter Concerns to White House Counsel

At the White House and the federal courts, the final call isn't made by the bureau.

"I was shocked by the new allegations released today against Rob Porter", Kelly said. "There is no place for domestic violence in our society", he said in a statement.

After those images were published, Porter announced his resignation on Wednesday.

Porter resigned after his two ex-wives alleged that he had abused them during their relationships.

Mr Porter denied the allegations. She was appointed permanent White House communications director on September 12, and 28 at the time, she is the youngest White House communications director in history.

Porter's title understates his importance to the president.

In this role, Porter is essentially a gatekeeper for the Oval Office with direct access to Trump.

Shah also noted that President Trump was "saddened" by the matter. Two of these people noted privately that Kelly was far more vociferous in his defense of Porter than any White House staffer had been after the president was accused last month of having had an extramarital affair with porn star Stormy Daniels; one noted that spousal abuse is illegal but arranging "hush money" for a mistress is not.

Did the allegations affect his security clearance?

Then, when the controversy exploded this week, Kelly's reaction came across as jarring and insufficient, especially at a time when American political and public life is being reshaped by revelations of abuse and sexual harassment.

According to CNN, Hicks - who has previously kept a relatively low profile - helped draft chief of staff John Kelly's response to the allegations of abuse.

On Wednesday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed, "He is going to be leaving the White House". "I've lost count as to how many Trump appointees have been sidelined due to their past views or conduct". In addition to the difficult time Shah had nailing down a consistent narrative regarding what senior White House staffers knew about the abuse allegations and when, he also had a hard time confirming if Porter resigned of his own accord or if he was sacked.

Senior staff at the White House apply for five-year clearances, and the process can be lengthy-some current officials are still waiting, aides said.

Kelly traveled to the speech with Trump, a tacit acknowledgment that even as the fallout from Porter's departure ensnares the chief of staff, the President remains committed to Kelly. She took out the protective order against him in after he allegedly violated a separation agreement and punched through glass in the door of their home, cutting himself.

The Daily Mail first reported that the pair was "spotted canoodling" in a cab after dining with friends, including Ivanka Trump.

Jennifer Willoughby, Porter's second wife, whom he married in 2009, also came forward with a separate account of abuse she had to face, saying her ex-husband maintained at the time his turbulent behavior was the result of his failed marriage with his first wife. The Intercept published its interview with Holderness on Wednesday.

Porter has denied his ex-wives' allegations, calling them "simply false" and suggesting that the photos provided by Holderness misrepresented what actually happened. Shah also said President Trump became aware of the allegations on Tuesday night. I took the photos given to the media almost 15 years ago and the reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described.

"To understand John Kelly is to understand that he is, first and foremost, a Marine and somebody who obviously has a lot of respect for the country and for whoever's the commander in chief", Panetta said.

Porter adds that he has been transparent and truthful, but will leave the White House after a transition period.

Holderness did not respond to attempts to contact her by telephone and email.

In a chaotic White House where eye-popping headlines are the order of the day, Porter has largely stayed out of the media spotlight - until now.
