'Obsessed' fan dead after breaking into famous YouTube couple's home

Texas police have said a "disturbed fan" broke into the home of a YouTube celebrity couple armed with a gun and fired at least one shot inside the home.

YouTube stars Gavin Free and Meg Turney were forced to hide in their bedroom closet and call 911 when an "obsessed" fan drove 11 hours from New Mexico to break into their home. A gun was allegedly fired from Giles' auto, leading to officers returning fire.

When two Austin officers encountered Giles as he leaving the home in a Lincoln sedan, they ordered him to stop and show them his hands. The suspect died on the scene, but according to KXAN, a pending investigation will determine whether he was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot or an officer.

Police say an official ruling into how Giles died is still under review.

Christopher Giles, who police described as "single, lonely and disturbed", had made the 11-hour drive from Albuquerque, according to documents filed in the 2nd Judicial District Court. Both Turney and Free were unharmed during the incident. He was apparently jealous of Free, creator of the popular YouTube series The Slow Mo Guys, and resented him for his lifestyle and success.

Giles is accused of breaking into Turney's and Free's house in the 4500 block of Avenue G on January 26.

The couple hid in a closet and updated the 911 dispatcher as Giles, 23, rooted through their home looking for the pair.

Giles was said to have developed an obsession with Mr Torney and according to the search warrant one note said: "I want Gavin Free to die alone with no children".

Instead, they said, he fired his gun. Giles was pronounced dead at the scene with a.45 caliber handgun by his side.

Detectives wrote in the complaint it was "apparent Giles' sole intent was to cause harm to someone who resides there", according to the outlet.

They also found evidence that Giles had been planning the "burglary and homicides of Megan Turney and Gavin Free" at his home.

"Hey everyone. I just wanted to say thanks for all the support and concern regarding the recent incident, ' he tweeted on Monday".

Ms Turney added: "Thank y'all so, so much for each and every kind message today and a special thank you to the Austin Police for their quick response that night and their ongoing support during this hard time".
